Energy Storage
Recharging a train requires a large amount of power in short timescales, and will be disruptive and costly, using existing distribution systems. A localised steady-state, energy storage system, will supply intensive charging energy when required. It is is more cost-effective and does not overwhelm the network.
System
The combination of components is essential to ensure a simple, reliable, foolproof system, it is difficult to identify patentable value the commercial advantage may be best applied to the system definition to protect the property by other means (i.e. hardware, software, integration and know-how, in combination).
Rolling Stock
A battery train has superior performance and acceleration than a diesel train: it has much reduced, simpler maintenance. Cost of ownership of battery systems and electric traction equipment is significantly less than other energy sources (half the price of hydrogen and diesel)and significantly less than 25kV infrastructure.
